Music - English National Opera - composition feedback
I am delighted to share some wonderful news from Year 4 and Year 6.
Both classes recently submitted original music compositions to the English National Opera (ENO) Competition, and we are incredibly proud to announce that both were recognised for their outstanding quality and creativity.
🎶 Year 6 – Competition Feedback
The ENO shared the following feedback on the Year 6 composition:
“The piece had such rich, glittery textures. It was wonderfully fun. When I closed my eyes, I could picture stumbling upon a treasure trove in a cave and diving into a pool of gold coins. I loved the bird sounds and the echoing chimes and drums. The singing was crisp and clear, and the drum solo was fantastic. You took me on a journey I really enjoyed. Well done for creating such a unique and playful piece. Everything came together beautifully, and you made bold, exciting creative choices.”
We are especially excited to let you know that Year 6’s composition was one of just 20 selected from 123 submissions nationwide to be turned into an animation — a truly fantastic achievement!

The selected compositions were also shared with the ENO composer Omar Shahryar, who gave Year 6 this feedback:
“I really enjoyed the sequence of your ideas, leading us on a journey to the unknown, with some very funny things happening along the way.”
🌿 Year 4 – Competition Feedback
A huge congratulations also goes to Year 4 for their fantastic composition, Green.
The ENO were impressed by their interpretation of the colour green, created as part of Omar Shahryar’s opera Blue, Red, Yellow. Before the Easter holidays, a panel at the ENO listened to all the submissions, including:
Kevin Jones, Senior Philanthropy Manager at English National Opera, who plays a key role in supporting ENO’s work in Manchester.
The feedback for Year 4 was as follows:
“What a fun use of harmonies! Your lyrics offered a thoughtful exploration of the different images and feelings the colour green can represent. I especially loved the tonal shifts on ‘jealousy’ — it really captured how tricky emotions can pop up unexpectedly. Really well done. You should be very proud of what you created.”
🌟 Final Congratulations
We hope all of the children involved are feeling exceptionally proud of themselves. These achievements reflect not only their creativity and musical talent, but also their confidence to make bold and imaginative choices.
Congratulations once again to every pupil involved and to Mrs Chambers for making it happen — a truly wonderful achievement.
